Here are the upcoming enhancements for Windows 11 in early 2025.

It has been a while since Windows 11 received optional updates featuring new additions. The developers at Microsoft took a well-earned break during the holiday season, but now that 2025 has arrived, Windows 11 users can look forward to fresh features once again.

According to a report by Windows Latest, the optional updates planned for January and February are expected to be more substantial than usual, with February being a particularly notable month for enhancements. These updates are based on the release notes from Windows 11’s Beta Channel.

What new features are coming to Windows 11?

Here are the key updates and improvements expected in January and February for Windows 11 24H2 and some for 23H2:

  • Magnifier enhancements: The Magnifier app will allow users to reset the zoom level with a single click. The previously selected zoom level will then be automatically restored. This feature will be available for both 24H2 and 23H2 versions.
  • File Explorer upgrades: Several quality-of-life improvements are coming to File Explorer. Users will soon be able to create new folders directly from the context menu without navigating back to the side pane. Additionally, Windows 11 will retain tabs that were open before a restart, provided this option is enabled in File Explorer’s settings. This smart tab management is designed to use fewer system resources than opening multiple windows. File sharing through File Explorer is also set to become more streamlined.
  • Time zone adjustments: Users without administrator rights will gain the ability to change the time zone on their PCs. Moreover, a bug in Windows 11 24H2 that previously blocked even administrators from modifying time zones is expected to be resolved.

When will these updates arrive?

The updates mentioned above are scheduled to roll out as optional updates by the end of February 2025. To access them, you can check for optional updates in your Windows 11 settings and install them manually as they become available.
